Essential Elements for a Task Tracking Board/List

  • Clear and Concise Title: A brief summary of the task.
  • Detailed Description (Optional): More context or specific requirements for the task.

2. Status Categories (Common Columns/Sections)

  • To Do: Tasks that need to be started.
  • In Progress: Tasks that are currently being worked on.
  • Blocked: Tasks that cannot be moved forward due to a dependency or issue. Clearly indicate the blocker.
  • Waiting for Review: Tasks that are complete and awaiting feedback or approval.
  • Done: Tasks that have been completed and approved.

(You can customize these categories to fit your workflow, e.g., “Ready for Development”, “In Testing”, etc.)

3. Task Attributes (Information associated with each task)

  • Assignee: The team member responsible for the task.
  • Priority (Optional): High, Medium, Low (or a similar scale) to indicate urgency.
  • Estimated Due Date (Optional): A target completion date for the task.
  • Story Points/Effort (Optional): A relative estimate of the work involved (if using agile methodologies).
  • Tags/Labels (Optional): Keywords to categorize tasks (e.g., “front-end”, “bug”, “feature”).
  • Dependencies (Optional): Links to other tasks that need to be completed before this one can start.

Choose a task tracking tool or method that works for your team. Create tasks for the work that needs to be done, breaking down the high-level tasks from your earlier plan. Ensure each task has a clear title and is placed in the appropriate status category. Assign team members and add relevant attributes to each task. Regularly update the status of tasks as work progresses.
